TikTok launches in-app shopping in the U.S.
On November 11, TikTok launched its in-app shopping feature in the U.S., TikTok Shop. Users can now purchase items directly through TikTok, allowing users to browse products and make purchases without leaving the app. It lets merchants, brands, and creators display and sell products directly on TikTok.
The launch of TikTok Shop in the U.S. is just one step that the app is taking to put a bigger focus on in-stream shopping. YouTube, Twitter, and more also all offer social commerce on their platforms. The addition of TikTok Shop should allow the app to put less focus on advertising and seek revenue from features like gaming and live shopping.
TikTok is also highlighting shopping live streams to boost commerce engagement, as well as opening U.S.-based fulfillment centers to provide easy delivery and returns for customers. Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok, has had tremendous success with in-stream commerce and generates the majority of its revenue from in-app purchases.
What does this mean for your business?
U.S. consumers are spending more time than ever engaging on social platforms, so it’s a smart move to sell your products directly on platforms like TikTok.
How to optimize your TikTok storefront:
- Make sure your product images are high quality and appealing to consumers.
- Make your product photos easily recognizable as your brand.
- Include as many details as possible about each of your products in their descriptions.
- Partner with influencers who are a good fit for your brand to promote your products.
