Retail Trends for the 2022 Holiday Season
The holiday season is right around the corner, and consumers are likely to be shopping even earlier this year. To help your business be prepared for holiday advertising, we’ve put together this list of some of the biggest holiday trends for 2022.
E-commerce will dominate holiday shopping
This trend likely comes as no surprise, but consumers are predicted to do more of their holiday shopping online this year. eMarketer predicts nearly 16% growth in e-commerce sales this year, with Cyber Monday predicted to be the number 1 spending day of the season.
In-store shopping will be strong this season, too.
Longer shipping times, earlier last ship dates, and supply limitations are likely to bring more shoppers into stores this year. With the ease of the pandemic, more people are out and about and are likely to visit a physical store to buy something or as a source of inspiration for purchases. It’s also estimated that consumers will be doing a lot more buying online and picking up in-store.
Shoppers will start checking off their lists early.
Every year consumers have been starting their holiday buying earlier than they did the year before, for reasons like lessening the stress of holiday shopping and stretching out their budgets. This is also thanks to loyalty programs and the fear of missing out on a key wish list item. Data shows that Millennials and Gen Zers buy gifts earlier than Gen X and Boomers.
Black Friday and Cyber Monday will play a big role.
The rise of inflation means prices are much higher than last year, so consumers will want to make the most of discounts. Last year, 54% of U.S. consumers made a purchase during Black Friday and/or Cyber Monday, according to Meta. This number is expected to rise as more people take advantage of holiday promotions.
